It’s been a long time in the making, so long that I’ve forgotten exactly how long although I reckon it’s been about 7 years, but I recently finished the layout for my book of photos from Hong Kong. I self published it through Blurb and the first copies have finally arrived and I have to say I’m really pleased with the results.
The amount of time it took to put together was largely due to scanning old slides and negatives from the pre digital era which was an extremely time-consuming and laborious effort. Editing images was also time-consuming and I also found choosing the photos to print a really difficult process, finally whittling it down to 120 pages. The ability to publish so freely on the internet makes you forget about the difficulties and tough decisions of the editing process.
The actual layout, which I did in inDesign, was relatively straight forward by comparison and the process of uploading it and ordering copies was pretty easy too.
