I had to travel by train from King’s Cross in London to Leeds a few weeks ago, shortly after the new departures concourse at King’s Cross was opened. It’s a pretty stunning piece of architecture designed by John McAslan.
It reminds me of the courtyard around the Reading Room at the British Museum, it’s essentially a curving geometric steel construction which, according to the architect, is longest single-span station structure in Europe.
With St Pancras station only next door there’s some pretty exceptional station buildings in a short space, having said that the old station front at king’s Cross is still an abomination in my opinion.
